Application

Prerequisites

The admission requirement for the master's program is a professionally qualified German or equivalent foreign degree. A minimum of 60 credits in political science and at least 10 credits in social science research methods and at least 10 credits in gender studies are required.

Application Deadlines

The Master's programme begins regularly in the winter semester.

Generally, the application deadlines are as follows:

starting in the winter semester:  31.05.

starting in the summer semester (only for higher semester applicants):  15.01.

According to §3 (1) of the admission regulations for the Master's program, proof of 60 CP in Political Science is required, of which at least 10 CP must be in Social Science research methods and an additional 10 CP in Gender Studies:

If you do not formally meet the admission requirements, it is possible to submit equivalent evidence of your academic achievements in order to obtain the required number of points. To do so, you must officially prove that your achievements are equivalent. Equivalent achievements include: term papers or seminars attended, proof of registration, and the title of your BA thesis. The documents must be officially stamped and signed by your examination office or lecturer and can be uploaded as additional documents with your application.

Before the application period, it is also possible, but not necessary, to request a preliminary review by the examination board of the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Freie Universität Berlin (Admission Regulations §3, 3). However, a preliminary review of the admission requirements is not possible during the application period. To request a preliminary review, please send the complete documentswell in advance of the application deadline alongside an informal letter and a request for a preliminary examination to:

No. When checking the admission requirements, only credits completed at the university or college will be recognised.

No. The admission requirements must already have been fulfilled and proven at the time of application.

A renewed preferential admission in the following year is only possible if an officially recognised duty prevents you from starting your studies. Further information can be found here:

In order to be admitted to a higher semester, students must, in addition to the basic admission requirements for the Master's program "Gender, Intersectionality and Politics" (according to §3 (1) of the admission regulations: proof of 60 LP in political science and at least 10 LP in social science research methods and 10 LP in the area of gender studies is required), provide evidence of comparable academic achievements for the respective semester in a creditable Master's program.

It is possible to apply for admission to the Master's program before all examinations have been completed if it is foreseeable that the degree will be awarded before the start of the MA program. In this case, at least 2/3 of the total workload should have been completed and the application for the final thesis should have been submitted.
