No, it is a consecutive master's program. However, students have to pay the semester fees of the university. This includes a semester ticket for the Berliner AB area, the matriculation and re-registration fee, the social contribution for the StudierendenWERK of Berlin as well as the contribution for the student body. More information about the amount of the fees can be found here.

The program is designed to last four semesters full-time. During this time, you can also choose to do an internship. However, the individual period of study depends on many factors. If the studies cannot be completed full-time, there is the possibility to apply for part-time studies.

No. There is no mandatory internship, but it is possible to complete a six-week internship and have it credited. Alternatively, you can learn or improve upon a foreign language.

A semester abroad is possible. Please inform yourself about the possibilities in advance, and determine whether the courses you would like to take abroad can also be recognized.

Credit points are awarded for the completion of modules and not for individual courses. Modules are demonstrably completed through study and examination achievements. A total of 120 credit points must be completed during the course of study.

In principle, a part-time study of the MA GIP is possible. However, there is no correspondingly adapted part-time study curriculum in the Master's programme. This means that certain courses, such as the compulsory lecture "Grundlagen der sozialwissenschaftlichen Geschlechterforschung", are only offered in the winter semester. If you are planning to study part-time, please make an appointment with MA GIP Student Advisory Service for a consultation: ma-gip@polsoz.fu-berlin.de

General information on part-time studies at FU can be found here: https://www.fu-berlin.de/studium/studienorganisation/immatrikulation/rueckmeldung/teilzeit/index.html

Registration for specific courses at the language center must be made in advance using the online registration form: https://www.sprachenzentrum.fu-berlin.de/sprachangebot/kursangebot/anmeldung_zu_veranstaltungen/index.html

In order to ensure a high priority in the allocation of places, you should submit your application to the Master GIP's Course Guidance Office by 20.09. for the winter semester and by 20.03. for the summer semester: ma-gip@polsoz.fu-berlin.de

The registration must contain this information: First and last name, matriculation number, language in which you would like to complete a module, expected module (depending on the result of the placement test) and previous language knowledge (yes or no).

If you miss this deadline, you will receive a low priority for the placement, but you can still apply.

Students who already have previous knowledge of the chosen foreign language must take a placement test in the chosen language at the language center before registering. The dates will be published on the website of the language center: https://www.sprachenzentrum.fu-berlin.de/sprachtests/abv_einstufungstests/index.html

It is in general recommended to attend seminars beyond the specified requirements. In the basic module it is also possible to attend other seminars. The examination for the module must, however, take place in the field of gender studies in social sciences.

After receiving the proof of participation and/or performance, you must submit an application to the Examination Board of the Otto Suhr Institute at the following e-mail address: pa-osi@polsoz.fu-berlin.de.

Please note the following instructions and use the forms provided:

You should also provide written justification of the extent to which the course content and seminar achievements meet the requirements of the MA GIP study and examination regulations.

Unfortunately, there is no possibility of a preliminary assessment. For an initial non-binding assessment of which module the course might fit into, please contact this e-mail address: ma-gip@polsoz.fu-berlin.de

No. It is also possible to acquire one or two foreign language acquisition modules worth a total of 10 credit points from the language center.
